I’m a Little Ashy but……

I have managed to rise above my BLAHS today. Today is the first day I have felt positive about anything.

Thanks to all of the supportive comments from everyone, I feel like a phoenix rising from the fire and ashes. The comments y’all left were so inspiring and flattering. Dr. Judith Beck herself even chimed in. Over at Incredible Shrinking Ladies, where I am a contributing blogger, I wrote this post to let everyone know how much I appreciate the support.

So the first thing I did this morning was to read my Advantage Response Card to remind me why I started a new lifestyle to begin with. That gave me the strength to shun the Milk Duds when I got to work. Although Dr. Beck and others did point out that eating a few Milk Duds isn’t going to stop me from reaching my goal, I simply do not have the willpower yet to just eat a few. So no Milk Duds for me just yet.

As I mentioned in my BLAH post, my goal for August is to lose TEN POUNDS. I feel the key to reaching this goal is for me to EXERCISE MORE. Yesterday I started wearing this:

Actually, its a digital pedometer (so drink all you want). If you click on the picture it will take you to a site where you can buy one for yourself, but I found a new one on eBay for about half the price. It clips on like a cell phone or you can put it in your pocket. My goal is to take 10,000 steps a day. After wearing it for one full day, I can tell you that I have a lot of work to do. Yesterday I took a total of 3,750 steps. That is a long way from 10,000. Unfortunately I can’t take the stairs instead of the elevator or park further away from my office because that is not possible. My office is in an old house that has been converted into an office. So however many steps it takes you to get from your driveway to your living room, that is how many steps it takes me to get to my office (formally the guest bedroom) from my car. So I’m going to start recording my steps everyday in the sidebar over to the right. I’m going to have to start getting creative.

I’m still not drinking water like I should but it just hit me that if I drink more water, I will have to pee more which will make me have to WALK to the bathroom more (a total of 8 steps from my desk). So more water equals more steps. I’m a multi-tasker my nature.

  • You can walk out to the palacial Mur-room anytime you wish. That would add at least another 15 steps, plus stairs (2-1/2). Keep up the good work!

  • i love(d) wearing a pedometer. i lost mine, then bought a new one that is wonky and needs replacing, but yeah…10,000 steps is alot of moving, I’ve done it like 2-3 times, usually on a day when i play 18 holes of golf (good for about 5k steps even WITH the damn cart!). its kind of a fun tracking mechanism! glad you are on the rise, hope yall will be there for me on my blah days too!

  • I just started the 10,000 Steps program too. My steps aren’t very good yet, either. One day I made it to 8500+, but that was a very active day for me. Usually I hit somewhere in the 5000-6000 range.

You’re so right about the water, though. This corporate job I have over the summer isn’t offering me any chances to walk — except when I have to go to the bathroom. Drink up on the water and you’ll be killing two birds with one stone!

    Good luck and happy steppin’!!

  • Y’know, it’s funny. I used to wear a pedometer (until someone STOLE IT on the bus one day *tear*) and was always amazed at how unpredictable my steps would be. I’d think I’d had a lazy day, but have over 8000 steps; I’d think I’d had an active day and be way under 10 000. I don’t get me. Heh.

It definitely helped me be aware of my habits, though, and tweak certain days of the week to get more steps.

  • lOVED THE LL COMMENT LOL

  • you are just tooooo bad. you could always make a call on the boss man..but I guess that would be less steps than to the palatial Mur-room. thanks for being who you are.

  • I love Milk Duds.

Best of luck with your goal this month – come see my oven fried chicken recipe. I finally found a good one.

Yeah, walk more, drink more water, pee more — it works!
